Skin tags are soft, small, flesh-colored or slightly darker skin growths that develop mostly on the neck, in the armpits, or in the groin area. Usually, skin tags cause no trouble, but they may be unattractive, and clothing or nearby skin may rub and irritate them so that they bleed or hurt. A doctor can easily removeskin tag with scissors or a scalpel or with an electric needle. Skin tag basically is an outgrowth of skin and hangs out of the normal skin. It is usually benign in nature but can become malignant too due to more cancerous mutations in them. It projects from a stalk and hangs out of the skin like a protrusion. They are characteristically seen on the neck, underarms, eyelids, and under the breasts. Although skin tags may vary somewhat in appearance, they are usually smooth or slightly wrinkled and irregular. The color of most skin tags is either the same as that of the body flesh or a little more brown than the surrounding skin. Early or beginning skin tags may be as small as a flattened pinpoint-sized bump around the neck and slowly it grows and hangs out. Some skin tags may be even as large as a big grape. Skin tags can occur almost anywhere there is skin. Tags generally occur in places where skin tends to rub with tight clothing. Skin tags usually appear on people as they age. They are actually quite common in people over 60, more common in women than in men. Research shows that if your Mom or Dad had them you will too. Skin tags may also develop in women after pregnancy.
Skin tags are easy to move or wiggle back and forth, but, If you notice that a skin growth is too firm to be wiggled easily, is a different color than surrounding skin, is multicolored or has raw or bleeding areas, ask your doctor to examine it. If it is not obvious that your skin growth is a skin tag, your doctor may want to do a biopsy, which means they will use a scaplel to remove a small piece of skin that will be examined in a laboratory. Since they are thought to arise more readily in areas of skin friction or rubbing, tags are also more common in overweight people. Skin tags are also called as Cutaneous papilloma or acrochordon. The cause of skin tags is still not known but the most common factors of skin tags are – skin rubbing, skin chaffing and a possible resistance to insulin or the Human Papilloma Virus. Skin tags can develop in both men and women. They can be skin color, or darker and can range from one to five millimeter in size.
Essential oils are generally used for the treatment of skin tags. A number of medical procedures are also used for skin tag removal like Cryotherapy, Cauterization, Ligation and Excision. There are various treatments for skin tags but the most easy and effective of these being natural treatments. Once eliminated, the same skin tag will not grow back again.
